This particular piece is special in that it has areas of spalting which adds to the beauty of any piece of wood. Bradford pear is a common ornamental tree in the eastern united states which also produces an excellent turning wood for bowl making on the wood lathe wood turning pens. Grain can be straight or wavy. Bradford pear wood has a deep rich color with lighter areas of contrast.

This species is hard. A friend commissioned me to turn a bradford pear log. Cutting requires sharp tools. Sands to a high lustre finishes easily and is stable when dried.
